John Harbaugh Moves On From Daniel Faalele Before He Plays a Single Regular-Season Snap for Giants

Daniel Faalele’s reunion with John Harbaugh in New York is over before it ever reached the regular season.

The New York Giants are trading the veteran offensive lineman to the Jacksonville Jaguars in exchange for a Day 3 pick in the 2027 NFL Draft, according to Newsday Sports’ Evan Barnes and NFL insider Jordan Schultz. The move comes just four months after the Giants signed Faalele to a one-year, $1.4 million deal in free agency. He will now leave New York without playing a single regular-season snap for the franchise.

Faalele spent the previous four seasons in Baltimore under Harbaugh, starting every game for the Ravens over the past two seasons at right guard. Baltimore selected the 6-foot-8 lineman in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft, and he has appeared in 66 games during his NFL career. Now, Harbaugh is moving on from a player who once anchored his offensive line in Baltimore before Faalele ever had a chance to suit up for the Giants when the games began to count.

Faalele did make his New York debut during Saturday’s preseason loss to the Minnesota Vikings, starting at left guard. But the Giants’ plans along the interior offensive line shifted after selecting Miami standout Francis Mauigoa with the No. 10 overall pick in this year’s draft. For Jacksonville, the move provides additional depth at a position that could use it. Jaguars starting right guard Patrick Mekari recently underwent back surgery and does not yet have a firm timetable for his return.

Faalele, who turns 27 in November, now gets a fresh start in Jacksonville after his brief and ultimately unfinished chapter with the Giants.
