The Gold Coast, Australia, recently witnessed an electrifying Pasifika takeover! From Samoa to the Cook Islands to Tonga, the energy was unmatched at the highly anticipated Opetaia vs. Nyika showdown, kicking off 2025 with a bang. And it wasn’t just a local affair… the whole world was tuned in, with fans staying up until 1 a.m., 3 a.m., and even 5 a.m. in different time zones just to catch this epic event. Now that’s dedication!

In case you missed it, the night’s main event was nothing short of spectacular. Jai Opetaia retained his IBF Cruiserweight and Ring Magazine titles in a stunning Round 4 knockout against New Zealand’s David Nyika. Opetaia delivered the decisive blow at 2:17 of the fourth round, electrifying hometown fans and viewers worldwide. Talk about starting the year with fireworks!

But the action didn’t stop there! Pasifika fighters dominated throughout the undercard.

  • Justis Huni defended his WBO Global and IBF Pan Pacific heavyweight titles in style, securing a TKO victory in Round 2 against South Africa’s Shaun Potgieter. Huni’s precision and power were on full display.

  • Teremoana Junior brought the heat with a jaw-dropping first-round knockout over Osasu Otobo. The bout lasted a mere 57 seconds, ending with a perfectly timed right hook to the head.

  • In the prelims, Albert Tu’ua delivered a thrilling performance against Kodi Shallali. The fight ended in a majority draw (37-37 x2, 38-37 Tu’ua), but Tu’ua’s determination and skill were undeniable.
