Frankie Luvu Crashes the NFL Top 100: Commanders’ Defensive Engine Earns First Nod

2024 stats: 17 games | 99 tackles | 12 tfl | 8.0 sacks | 14 QBH | 7 PD | 1 FF

Frankie Luvu has officially arrived. The Washington Commanders linebacker made his debut on the NFL Top 100 list, and it’s a nod that feels long overdue for one of the league’s most versatile and relentless defenders.

In his first season with Washington, Luvu became the heartbeat of Dan Quinn’s defense. Playing all 17 games in 2024, he stacked up 99 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, 8 sacks, 14 QB hits, 7 passes defended, and a forced fumble—all while setting career highs in sacks and QB hits.

But it wasn’t just the raw numbers. Luvu’s impact was felt everywhere. He became the only player in the NFL last season to log 200+ snaps in all three phases—rushing the passer (213), run defense (450), and coverage (342). That level of workload and effectiveness is rare, and the advanced metrics back it up:

  • 29 total pressures – 4th among all off-ball linebackers.
  • 27.6% pressure-to-sack conversion rate – 2nd in the NFL (min. 25 pressures).

For Washington fans, Luvu’s arrival meant stability and aggression in a front seven that needed both. For opponents, it meant accounting for a linebacker who could blitz, drop back, and knife through run lanes with equal ferocity.

As Luvu heads into his eighth season, the league is officially on notice. With Quinn’s defensive mind and Luvu’s all-gas-no-brakes mentality, don’t be surprised if this Top 100 appearance becomes a regular tradition.
