Big T’z. Tuli Tuipulotu wasted no time making an impact Sunday.
The Los Angeles Chargers edge rusher recorded the first interception of his NFL career when he picked off Seattle Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold on Seattle’s opening offensive play of the game. Tuipulotu intercepted a short pass intended for running back Emanuel Wilson and returned it four yards. The play came immediately after Seahawks linebacker Drake Thomas intercepted Justin Herbert on the Chargers’ opening snap, marking the first time in NFL history that the first two plays from scrimmage both ended in interceptions. Tuipulotu’s takeaway helped set up a 40-yard Cameron Dicker field goal, giving Los Angeles an early 3-0 lead. Despite the big play, the Chargers ultimately fell to the defending Super Bowl champion Seahawks, 30-23, dropping to 0-4 on the season.
Tuipulotu also made his presence felt throughout the afternoon, helping contain Seattle’s rushing attack and generating pressure on Darnold. His 91.6 overall PFF grade was his highest of the season through four weeks. For Tuipulotu, the interception added another milestone to what has been an increasingly impactful third NFL season.
And, of course, Tuipulotu celebrated in his signature fashion, throwing up the “T” for Tonga after securing the first interception of his NFL career.
