One of the NFL’s final 2026 hold-ins has come to an end, with Vita Vea set to remain in Tampa Bay after reaching an agreement on a contract extension with the Buccaneers.
The Buccaneers and the veteran defensive tackle have agreed to a one-year, $30 million extension, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
The new agreement comes as Vea was entering the final year of his existing contract, which was set to pay him $18 million in 2026. With the extension, Vea is now under contract for two years and $48 million.
According to Schefter, the deal includes $6 million in new money for 2026, increasing Vea’s compensation for the upcoming season to $24 million.
The initial details do not indicate whether the 2027 portion of the extension is fully guaranteed. If it is not, the structure essentially gives Vea a $6 million raise for 2026 without guaranteeing that Tampa Bay will retain him beyond the upcoming season.
Vea had stayed away from practice while seeking a new contract and had reportedly made multiple requests to be traded. The Buccaneers ultimately increased their offer enough to keep one of the most important pieces of their defensive front in Tampa Bay.
Selected by the Buccaneers in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft, Vea has spent his entire eight-year career with Tampa Bay. He has appeared in 112 regular-season games, including 107 starts, while earning Pro Bowl honors in 2021 and 2024.
He was also a key member of the Buccaneers’ Super Bowl LV championship team in the 2020 season.
